MIT Sharing Designs for $500 Emergency Ventilator
According to Popular Mechanics writer Courtney Linder as of March 30, 2020 there are only about 160,000 ventilators in U.S. hospitals, and there are already over 144,000 cases of COVID-19. Without a significant change, doctors will soon need to make decisions about who gets a breathing machine and who doesn't. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) expects the U.S. to have a ventilator shortage on the order of 300,000 to 700,000 units. If you are a Maker and interested in exploring creative ways to respond to the COVID-19 epidemic, you might consider building off the designs that MIT has just released here.
